Default Wish I'd started earlier

Hi. I've been reading these forums but this is my first time posting.

Sometimes people wonder if we have regrets about smoking. Well, I do.

I quit smoking several years ago for my ex and her kids. I regret that. I started again after she kicked me out. My mental health was worse when I didn't smoke. I won't be doing that again.

My biggest regret, though, is not starting smoking earlier. I didn't even start experimenting until college. I didn't start smoking regularly until grad school. I look at all the people who started in high school or earlier, and I think -- how would my life had been different if I had been one of them? What friendships or romances would I have made, or made sooner, over a cig?

But do I regret smoking? Regret starting again? Nope. Best decisions I ever made.

I started at 13 and I was the last of my friends to start. Preteen smoking came close to being normal in the 1960s and early 1970s, and I wish I had started much earlier.

Came from a very anti household, but I still started at 14.

All of my uncles smoked and had no problem with their kids starting. If I had the opportunity I probably would have been given permission to have a smoke or two around the time I started junior high (12).

I donít think I wish I had started earlier. I do, however, wish I had been more open about it earlier. Being in the closet about it sucks! I embraced being a smoker before I started. I knew I wanted to be a smoker. I guess it was fear of ridicule? I do wonder if I had started earlier if Iíd be a heavier smoker.

I don't wish I had started earlier. I do wish I had been less shy about my smoking and more open about it.

Having smoked my first cigarette at 12 years of age and becoming a regular smoker at 13, I donít think starting eralier would have been better.

I started later in life. I thought I would enjoy smoking once I got used to it. The enjoyment that I got out of smoking far exceeded my expectations. I regret not having started sooner. Better late than never.

I started smoking at 29 and while I would have honestly loved to have started earlier, I believe things happen for a reason. Who knows if I would have liked it as much as I do now had I started in my teens or early twenties like most people do. Although, had I started earlier, I know I wouldn't have given people needless shit for smoking.

I smoked here and there in high school and college, but didnít buy my first pack until I was 22. Had I started earlier it would have just meant fights with my parents and brother (still have them with my brother). I met a wonderful man (also a smoker) when I was 23 and weíve had 2 awesome kids, so not sure what relationships we would have missed. My daughter started at 14 and itís so much harder to be a teen smoker now than when I was a kid.
