Default What do you, as a regular smoker, consider heavy smoking?

If you look at a number of articles posted to the Internet, mostly written by non-smokers, it seems like smoking a ppd or more is considered "heavy" smoking. I wonder the vetran smokers here view this classification and if your view has changed over time.

For me, I've always viewed 2ppd+as heavy smoking, with 1 ppd being a moderate smoker because it seems so typical. A 1.5 pod smoker seems like it is on the high end of moderate, but still moderate. I started in the 90s so maybe this influences my views. What do you think?

I currently smoke 15-16 cigarettes a day and don't feel I'm even close to being a heavy smoker.

Dave,
I agree with you.
I started in the 70s. My view has not changed over time ... why should it?

I agree with both of you. Anything less than 1 ppd is a light or social smoker. Between 1-2 is a committed/habitual smoker. Over 2 ppd is a heavily addicted smoker.

I must be an "ultra serious" smoker! I smoke about 2.5 to 3 ppd usually. That's considered heavy smoking to me.

Since mask started smoking when I was born, I'm just going to go with whatever he says.

Huh? I think you are making me a little older than I actually am--thanks alot! I know you intended it as a compliment, but I'm old enough as it is without adding years I don't already have! You were 4 years old when I smoked my first cigarette.

I'm taken aback by the fact that anyone would have voted in the polls that 1 pack/day is "heavy smoking."

Default It's quantity and quality

I routinely smoke a pack-plus per day, so that would put me in the "serious/committed" column. But based on deeper inhales, longer holds and more than occasional multis, I may actually be pushing "heavy."

I smoke a pack and a half daily. So I consider more than 2 PPD to be "heavy smoking".

On average, I smoked 2 ppd for 45 years and loved everyone of them but never considered myself a heavy smoker. But times have changed
