![]() The legal age in Ohio, before 1998 (when the federal government coerced all the states to raise it to 18), to purchase tobacco was 18? It was 16 in New Jersey and Pennsylvania (18 in New York, though). At my high school, we smoked outside between every period while we changed classes, as well as before going inside at the start of the school day and after we exited when the school day was over. No big deal, it was par for the course. We had three buildings so class changes often involved going from one building to another. I must have smoked around eight cigarettes just while I was at school. Last edited by masklofumanto; 12-06-2015 at 01:22 AM. |

We had a fenced in area for smokers in my Freshman year. Took it out the next so we just smoked in the restrooms between classes. |

Speaking of which, I'm really enjoying the Reds. I don't have that many cigarettes to compare them too but they're everything I imagined smoking would be like. I like the taste, like the smell, like the consistency (I don't know if that's the right word?) of the smoke and of course I like the Marlboro Man because who doesn't! They're a reasonably popular cigarette at my school, probably second after Marlboro Gold. The Newports I didn't like as much. They seemed a lot stronger than the Marlboros and gave kind of a weird aftertaste. They also gave me a different buzz I haven't gotten from other cigarettes (although I get a "rush" every time I smoke, no matter what it is, so I'm not sure how to describe that). I think I want to give another menthol a shot. Masklo, which menthols did you say were the ones marketed for teenagers? Last edited by teen_smoker; 12-10-2015 at 11:01 PM. |

![]() Actually Newports are a little "stronger" than Marlboro Reds. Weird aftertaste? Was that because of the menthol flavor, or was it something about the tobacco? You didn't really say much of the sensory experience -- how was the taste, and what did you think of the coolness of the smoke? If you are still up to trying another menthol, give Marlboro Menthol a shot. Now if you want to try something really minty, try full-flavor Salem or Kool. It sounds to me that you will most likely settle with Marlboro Reds. But, as you said, you haven't had much to compare them to, so why not experiment a little more, maybe you'll find something you like even better. $12 a pack! Last time I bought cigs in New York, it was about $9.50 a pack ... and that was the most I've ever paid for a pack of cigs! Would you believe as recently as 1999, cigarettes still sold just under $2 a pack in New York State. Last edited by masklofumanto; 12-10-2015 at 11:01 PM. |

![]() Yeah, the store I go to knows it has the market cornered on my school and they jack the price up. At gas stations you can get Reds for about $10. I'm not sure how to describe the weird aftertaste and the weird buzz from Newport but I didn't like it. I did like the coolness of the smoke though. It almost felt "cleaner" that a Red did, and easier on my lungs too. (Reds make me cough every once in a while.) Next on my list to try is Camel Crush and then probably a Marlboro menthol, one of those ones that you said were made for younger smokers. I also want to try American Spirits at some point. |
