Default Hospitals Smoking

I don't know if this has been covered in another thread, if so, sorry in advance, but, I work at a hospital in Reno, Nevada and recently they passed a policy that bans smoking on the campus. All hospitals in Reno have done this, apparently. I'm outraged, to say the least. I feel that the little bitty hidden smoking section wasn't hurting anyone, but apparently...

Are there any hospitals doing this elsewhere?

That sucks, is it smoke free or tobacco free. At a lot of colleges and hospitals they're banning all tobacco possession and refusing to hire tobacco users. This including dip, snus, and e-cigs. Why? Secondhand dip? No because they can even though it's unenforceable. If it's just smoke free you could get some smokeless tobacco if you want. I'd recommend getting snus since having a spit cup might not be popular. They might let you use e-cigs on the property but I doubt it.

The point of the ban is to force people to quit whether they like it or not. Guaranteed within ten years they'll use "third hand" smoke to try and prevent people from smokers from going to various places. At first it won't work, but you never know who would have guessed ten or fifteen years ago that they'd ban smoking in bars.

Default Smoking at Hospitals

Well, I know you can smoke around hospitals in Virginia and South Carolina. Most hospitals in the south have big designated smoking areas because let's face it, there are a lot of hospital workers that smoke. The stress of working in a hospital probably causes some of that.

The other thing I notice (while smoking at a hospital) was that a lot of patients smoke too. Imagine a pregnant women who had to stop smoking for 9 months and just pushed out a baby! Think she might want a cig

Here is my final point. About drugs, about alcohol, about pornography and smoking and everything else. What business is it of yours what I do, read, buy, see, say, think, who I fuck, what I take into my body - as long as I do not harm another human being on this planet.

I've heard that one hospital in Tampa, Florida made a decision to allow the e-cigarette use within its facility. It was determined by the fact that smoking is a recreational privilege that while banned in most public places, can be done with the alternative electronic cigarette without offending others. The hospital authorities believe that it will increase management productivity because people won't have to travel to designated smoking areas and to waste time on that.
Other thoughts regarding this issue I have shared at tobaccosmoking.livejournal.com

They are banning all types of tobacco. I could probably sneak Snus, but I don't know much about it. I have an e-cig that I use in the restroom occasionally, but those are considered a "public display of smoking" and are not allowed either... the whole things just makes me mad. I could really use a cig on those loooong grave shifts.

Yeah that figures, I wondered if the ban was based off of extreme anti shs paranoia. Do they ban patients and visitors from smoking and tobacco use or just staff? There was one hospital that decided they wouldn't hire tobacco users and were planning to enforce it with drug tests. Most states have laws that you can't discriminate against smokers and we apparently need more.

Once you learn to use it snus is really discreet. My school doesn't allow tobacco on campus and after a while I was able use it in class and talk if I wanted to. Some brands "drip" more than others You need to be able not to spit and it takes time. The spit is easier to gut than dip. With swedish snus it takes a while to get used to the taste like with smoking I guess. Your gums harden up a bit

This probably a little long of an explanation. Snus is swedish for snuff. It's smokeless tobacco that's air cured, steam pasteurized tobacco. Copenhagen was made by swedish immigrants and is fire cure and fermented. The level of Carcinogens allowed in Smokeless tobacco is regulated by the Swedish Food administration. It's the main form of tobacco used in sweden twenty one percent of men and four percent of women use it, and 12 percent of men and 19 percent of women smoke. They did epidemiological studies in sweden of several hundred thousand construction workers who used snus and the only cancer it caused is pancreatic cancer at a lower rate than smoking (8 in 10,000 vs 13 in 10,000 in smokers and 4 in 10,000 in non-tobacco users). It's been around since the 17th century and portions were made in 1970's. A lot of smokers switched over once the surgeon general report came out. Most people put it in their front upper lip where you don't salivate as much, the spit is also easier to swallow than dip. They come Pouches or loose form. The pouches are called portions and have one gram of tobacco (8mg of nicotine 15-20 is absorbed it seems a lot stronger)and come in original and white varieties. Original is moist and White is drier. Mini portions are smaller and less visible and have less nicotine (4mg usually). Loose is really fine cut the largest is smaller than coffee grounds and some are like play dough. Most people especially beginners make it into a tootsie roll shape called a prilla. A couple of cigar stores sell the general brand of swedish snus you can check at genralsnus.com, the closest to you and apparently the only one listed is Tinder Box #140 4991 S. Virginia St., Suite A Reno, NV 89502, there phone number is 775-826-2680 you might want to call and verify that they're carrying it since sometimes the shops stopped carrying it and the site won't update that information.

Other than that you can get it online at sites like Northerner, Getsnus (owned by northerner), or Buysnus or snuscentral (uses buysnus to distribute their snus). Northerner and Getsnus have Warehouses in Pennsylvania and northerner took 5 or 6 days to get to Santa Barbara California with USPS. Shipping from sweden usually takes five or six days. you can pay by credit card on all of the sites. It's pretty cheap since you get twenty four portions. You can still get it after the Pact act from Northerner, but will have to use Fed Ex or UPS which costs more and they have to collect taxes on it (For smokeless tobacco tax by percent of wholesale price or added tax per can) rather than filing them on tax return which honestly I don't do (In CA you're allowed 200 dollar orders tax free anyway).

Of course Rj Reynolds and Phillip Morris make snus which are all mini white portions. Camel and Marlboro snus. They're drier than ordinary snus (esp marlboro) and seem lower in nicotine. I liked camel frost, thought mellow was ok. Before I used swedish snus but the stuff is really sweet and if it's not refrigerated a little dry. It's probably cheap if you look around but it's still like $3-4 for 12 or 15 pouches. I haven't tried Marlboro and don't intend to pay $2-3 for 6 pouches of minis.

It's a different nicotine buzz you get and definitely satisfies nicotine especially if your a moderate smoker or use the strong or extra strong snus that has like 12-19mg per portion or if you use loose per gram it's like chain smoking from my personal experience.

Well don't want to write an encyclopedia you can check google or wikipedia if you want to learn more. There's a forum i'm a member of called snuson if you want to learn more.

Well, thank you, sir! You certainly are a fountain of info. I visit my local Tinder Box weekly, so I might hit them up and try some Snus.

And, yes, the visitors and patients can't smoke on campus either.

I've been a patient in hospitals a couple of time. Heck, I simply light up anyway in my bed. To heck with them. What are they going to do - throw me out??? Well, they chastised me but that's about it.

Wow, if I tried that at any of my local hospitals the police would likely be there in a hot minute.
