I do the whole field-striping thing with my cigarettes. Get to the end, empty the tobacco out (Roll it between your fingers and step on it), throw the cigarette in the trash or stick it in my pocket. I've stuck them in the pack before, but I think you should have them separate from unsmoked cigs as it sorta leaves a smell in the pack. Small plastic bag would do. Also I try to field strip away from certain areas and such as I've heard some people complain about ashes and probably loose tobacco. Of course, the rain will inevitably wash it away or it will likely dissolve, so I don't get the complaints about this at all. The only time I heard of this making a difference was when tobacco at the beach killed some sea creatures (so don't do that please). The filter makes sense but the rest, not so much. I also avoid littering in general and just stick stuff in a bag in my car or toss the ashtray in the trash.
But some of the smokers here do have a point. I've noticed a lot of new cars don't always have ashtrays, probably thanks to the anti smokers, and some places do lack proper receptacles (I can also think of a few places that DID have them before anti-smoking invaded). You can however pay 3$ or so to get a cup holder ashtray and it supposedly puts it out and hides the smell, so that's a bonus, but I've seen people toss because of lack of ashtray. It does piss me off a bit to see people just toss the cigs when there are places to put them though. Sometimes I want to pick them up just so the antis can't use it as ammo. I don't really like seeing them throw them everywhere (when there's a receptacle its worse, but even when there isn't) because A) It's littering and B) It gives people more things to bitch about with smokers (We don't need to give them another one).
The whole child thing is kinda sketchy to me though, because I think the "Secondhand Smoke" "science" is sketchy (Do some research) and smoking in a car seems to warrant not much more than cracking the window a little where the airflow pretty much forces the smoke out of the car. I do try to smoke away from them though and/or outdoors. Smoking in the house, well, I guess that's up for grabs unfortunately.
Thankfully enough, it was a former coworker who mentioned on smoke break something about not throwing them on the ground as it gave people something else to complain about that made me think about it. Since then I've properly disposed of my cigs. |
