If $20 even counts, PS Amsterdam can still be had for that price. Compares with tobacco twice it's price imo.
Followed by PS Virginia, Turkish, and Norwegian.
Below $16.99/lb for 1839, my favorite bargin tobacco, I have not found much value. YMMV

I heard that NCS 3C is really just 3 castles repacked and discounted a few bucks seems like it considering its in a 14oz package just like all the other d&R offerings

Don't know where it comes from, but it is great tobacco, very similar to Three Sails. Not under $20.00/lb.

Although I haven't tried others, Golden Harvest Robust is very good! I might want to give Smokin G MRD a try. Didn't care too much for Kentucky Select (has an odd "herbal" aftertaste), though blended 1 part to 4 parts GH Robust results in something akin to a FF Camel.

Smokin G MRD is a steal at $14.00 a lb. Though NCS 3C doesnt meet the $20 mark, using it as a blender, a little goes a long way.

3 Castles hasn't been made for a few years. 3 Sails is supposed to be a close replica. NCS 3C is rumoured to be 3 Sails renamed for sale only by NCS. It is the only NCS not saying who actually makes it.
Personally, I believe NCS contracted D&R to make a blend simular to 3 Sails, with NCS as the only supplier of NCS 3C. You will not find this blend under another name sold anywhere else, till the contract terms expire.
As someone who smokes both 3 Sails and NCS 3C,( both in Windsail Prestige , Athey and 70mm filterless rollies), I will tell you they are not the same tobacco. The NCS 3C has a heartier flavor.

I'd have to agree that 3 Sails and NCS 3C are the best value I've found for the money. And that some of the more expensive blends I've tried haven't been up to par.

Among the true "cheapo" tobaccos (like Smokin' G, Large, Good Stuff, etc) I've yet to find one that blew me away as exceptional, but I'm still trying.
