Criss cross and The Good Stuff are dual purpose tobacco, not cavendish-laden offerings like Borkhum Riff that most people associate with "pipe tobacco." Let's be honest, inhaling anything probably ain't great. I've wondered if the thicker cut of dual purpose pipe tobacco makes it more deadly than say cigarette cut tobacco, and my honest belief is that they are a horse apiece.

Nah he isn't a doctor and thinking about it more I shouldent listen to him if he is willing to smoke fsc ciggerettes , thanks for the info.... Even if that tobbacco might be a little bit stronger it can't be worse than smoking the fsc and 100s of chemicals in ciggerettes in stores.

about halfway down the list of threads, there's one titled "Anyone notice a health difference in RYO."

if you read thru it, you'll get a better appreciation of the differences in smoking pipe vs cig tobacco

As far as inhaling goes, many pipe tobaccos are smother than most cigarette tobaccos. I have a cold right now, I have restricted myself to pipe tobacco, the most gentle type I have.

Don't listen to your friends, listen to strangers on the internet. haha

Read thru the many pipe tobaccos discussed in the forum, and try a couple.

Nonsense. I have another post today on the difference between cig and pipe tobacco. It is all tobacco in the end.

Wink pipe tobacco

the ryo products labeled "pipe tobacco" are really pipe tobacco, per say. it is cut much like peipe tobacco, but it's really nothing like the real pipe tobacco. a few years ago, when the govt, raised cigarette taxes more than 300%, the ryo companies were actually trying to help out us ryo customers! a few weeks after the tax hike, most of the ryo "cigarette" tobaccos were now labeled "pipe tobacco"! they had only raised the tax on pipe tobacco very minimumally. i had gone into my regular smoke shop, ready to shell out 30 or 40 bucks for what i used to pay 10 dollars for. the owner of the store came over to me and told me about the new "pipe tobaccos" and the fact that they were perfectly fine to use for cigarettes-nudge, nudge, wink, wink! he was actually really doing it on the down-low, like the ATF were going to bust in, any minute! lol it was cut different, but other than that, i could tell no difference. i also realized the government has to know what they did and i've been waiting for them to raise that too, but they haven't. i don't have to tell you how sick i get of being singled out by the goveernment, whenever they need more money for their bullshit! anyway, i hope this helped a little, in the discussion.

since this thread popped backup, i'll add a note

There's a video on youtube of 3 retired FDA scientists appearing on "60 Minutes" and talking about cigarette mfgrs are using 70 chemicals to treat cig tobacco. Each chem has been individually approved for human consumption,, but no testing has been done on those 70 chems on what they become when mixed or combined and what they become when combusted. One example i'm aware intimately, of a chem with a "jekyll & hyde" nature is pure silicone. Silicone is totally non-toxic, and safe for human consumption - you can drink it and it will pass thru your system. Burn it and it gives off formaldeyde, which is highly carcinogenic (not sure of the spelling there).

Then add in a lot of those chemicals are added to temper or restore the taste of that tobacco to what it was before the previous change or additive changed it.
One example - because of the high FET tax on cig tobacco ($26.80/ lb iirc) vs pipe tobacco ($2.16/lb) cig mfgrs wanted to reduce the amount of tobacco in a carton. In the 70s, the avg carton contained .76 lbs of tobacco. Today it's under .46 lbs, so basically they reduced their FET per lb by 30%, which is a considerable reduction. To reduce the tobacco content though, they "expanded" the tobacco so it would take up more volume - think like rice krispies. Because the tobacco was expanded (hollow) it burnt faster and hotter - so to reduce the rate of burn, they added a chem. That chem changed the taste slightly so they added another chem. You can see the train of thought here.

When i quit factory smokes, everytime i smoked one, i felt like i'd wiped the back of my throat with a dry cotton ball laced with chemicals. After a week or so of RYO cigs, i tried smoking one of my marlboro lights - i couldn't finish it - the chem taste was killing me.
