Pipe tobacco is federally taxed at about $2.80 per pound. The feds raised ryo cigarette tobacco to almost $25 per pound 2 years ago and now is getting ready to raise the federal tax on pipe tobacco to almost $25.00 per pound! This could happen as early as next month (April 2012).

Me being a roll your own cigarette guy I have found a web site to combat this HUGH increase to us roll your own guys. Check out ryocigs.com as they off 3 blend of leaves that have been around for almost 7 years. Nice smooth smokes and no harsh after taste. I have switched and when the new tax goes into affect all the ryo guys have to have a solution and I think ryocigs is the place.

Thanks for the post. Doing a search, all I found was a bill from January/2010, H.R. 4439, which didn't pass.

The feds have a $51 million ad campain that started last week about kids and smoking. RYO filling station goes to federal court on April 10th. TTB closed public comment on redefining pipe tobacco for federal tax purposes on 10/24/11. 27 states are going after business that have ryo shops. NY and Kanas have shut them down.

I thought on Jan 1 they would have change the federal tax on pipe tobacco but now April is looking like the month its going to happen as I think the states are putting a lot of pressure on the feds to make something happen.
