I just bought a pound of peter stockebyes amsterdam pipe tobacco for the purpose of MYO cigarettes.
when opening the bag the smell is extremely strong.
I have bought many other smooth pipe tobaccos but none smelled this strong.
It is almost like a fruity perfumy smell.
is stockebyes amsterdam supposed to smell like this?

After reading many peoples favorable reviews of the Amsterdam blend I figured I'd try it. I bought the pipe cut for RYO as well. I to was turned off by its strong smell and didn't really care for the Amsterdam blend when I smoked it. I will say though I wish I'd boughten it in the cigarette cut as since I've tried more of the Stokebye blends, I've found that I prefer the cig cut over the pipe cut in all the other blends. Seems to taste better, stuff better, and produce a better smoke IMO. Don't let the smell of the tobacco turn you off though, as I've tried the Stokebye Stockholm blend and it to was very smelly from the dark fires that are blended into it i believe. It even made my fingers smell after stuffing it. But when smoked its very smooth and has a pleasant taste, the Stockholm blend is one of my favorite RYO tobaccos.
