I have been RYO for about two weeks I am on my first box of tubes and pack of tobacco. I chose Gambler tubes menthol and Gambler menthol tobacco wow talk about strong. I am trying to get close as I can to Doral menthol lights. Do I need to change the tubes or the tobacco? I am using the Gambler hand held injector I do plan on getting a crank style any suggestions on brands would be appreciated.

Sounds like you have run into the same quandary I did when I first started RYO. I prefer a menthol smoke too and I tried the same thing you did, menthol tobacco and menthol tubes. Here's what I did; I tried a regular light tube and it mellowed the menthol out big time. But I've read others do the opposite and use regular tobacco and a menthol tube. My suggestion would be to try changing the tubes first. If that doesn't work, then try the other way around.

I'm running into the same problem with menthol level and still trying to solve that with the tubes if you see me other post on tube size. There's so much to learn about RYO and I think we are in the same boat, still learning as we go.

Thanks for responding; I have been using the Gambler Menthol Tobacco with some Gambler 100 tubes the orange and black box. It is not bad at all, I also tried some Kite Menthol Tobacco and it was smoother than Gambler. I plan on trying some Bugler Tobacco next and see how that goes.
I will post here what I think about it.

Sounds like your local smoke shop has a larger variety of tobacco than mine. I have only four varieties to choose from: Four Aces, Dark Horse, Gambler and Top (as far as menthol goes). Also, they only carry the full flavor Premier tubes. Fortunately I can experiment with the tubes due to the large variety available on the internet. I'm still looking for an online site to try some different tobaccos that don't cost an arm and a leg.

I used to smoke Basic Menthol Ultra Light Kings, which were hard to find in king size anyway. Now I'm using the Premier Light King tubes with Dark Horse Mint. They are still a bit strong, but I've grown accustomed to them. The Four Aces brand was still strong as hell and the Gambler had an odd aftertaste to me. I haven't tried the Top brand yet because it only comes in the 1lb size and I don't want to be stuck with all that tobacco if I don't like it. I'm still trying to figure out about filter size and no one has been able to answer my question and I have not been able to find any more info about this. So, I'm ordering a few different brands of tubes and will do a comparison and post what I find out about tube size at a later date.

Keep up the experimentation and let me know how it goes and I'll do the same once my new tubes come in.

They have a good selection of tobacco but only have Gambler tubes. I got a small pouch of Bugler Non Menthol tobacco and tried it with menthol tubes; it had a very hard bite to it not for me. I picked up some Gambler Gold tubes the 100’s and been trying them with the Gambler Menthol tobacco and I must say it’s not bad at all good and smooth. I will be going up to the tobacco place Friday to get more tubes and I might try some Tops menthol tobacco and see how it tastes to me. I am planning on picking up a crank injector also I will let you know how it works out. Take care.

Sounds like my solution of using regular tubes and menthol tobacco is working? Cool deal. I'm waiting for a shipment of 6 different types of tobaccos and two different types of tubes to arrive by tomorrow hopefully from rollyourown.com. Let me know how the pipe tobacco works. I tried some the other night... It did not work out. But it was Captain Black Cherry like I said not good don't do it.
