Default Torn tubes

I just bought a Premier Supermatic Excel. The first 8-10 cigs turned out perfect! Now the tip of the tube is being torn. I've tried less tobacco, less packing, cleaning it all out and starting fresh. To no avail, they still end up with a small chunk of paper missing from the tip. What am I doing wrong?

**Update - I was thinking of a different injector machine...I looked yours up, it's not the one I was thinking of when I made these suggestions. But, they may still apply (I'm not familiar with that Premier model)**

Usually, the only 2 ways to end up with what you described are:
1. too much tobacco
2. too much "down" pressure (on the little rubber "lip" that grips the tip of the tube). **I don't think this applies to your machine?

I don't think the injector you have is adjustable? But, if it is - make sure the little switch underneath didn't get moved to the 100's position. It's happened to me once.

I would say it's gotta be from one of the reasons above. I realize, you did say you tried less tobacco...

Good luck! **Maybe someone who has this machine can help**

I did one with such a small amount of tobacco that it didn't fill the tube properly. Then I did a dry run. The tube didn't tear as severely with the complete absence of tobacco, but it did have a small triangular perforation in the same place. I think the tube is getting knocked out of place by the spoonperhaps, and the piece that is holding it steady is tearing it. I just don't know why. I'm going to call the company tomorrow. Thanks for your thoughts.

I have quite a few MYO machines in my collection. I have the same problem with that machine which is why I rarely use it. I started getting torn tabs after about making my first pack.

There is a video on-line that shows how to adjust machines when that happens. It is published by RollYourOwn magazine and when saved is titled "release1.wmv" The video is made for that machine so it is a well-known problem.

I will check out the video. I just made a few with Gambler tubes and they didn't tear. Perhaps the Excel prefers certain paper. I, unfortunately, don't much care for these tubes. I am waiting for a box of Vera Cruz Elegantes to come in the mail. I have my fingers crossed. Which machine is your favorite? I bought one of the auger style electric ones first and I hated it. I had hot burning ash dropping constantly. That is why I decided to give this one a shot. I have been pleased with everything other than the ugly notches at the tips. I want ever so badly to enjoy a good smoke and save cash at the same time. I'm feeling a bit frustrated over the amount of money I have wasted with my experiments. Thank you for your help. I wont be making any more silly uneducated moves.

I'm having trouble locating the video. Could you possibly post a link?

never mind. I found it! It's actually a different machine; mine is the Excel. It may still be useful though. I will see what happens with the new tubes before I loosen any screws. Thank you again.

I have a premier Supermatic, not sure if its the excel. I have had what you describe happen to me too. Only when using the Hot Rod brand tubes. I do not have this trouble with any other brand tube that I've used, Premier, Gambler, Zen, Golden Harvest, Zig Zag. I've found that with the hotrod tubes i can't use as much tobacco and it also seems to be a problem if the tobacco is too moist. Sometimes sprinkling a little dry shake into the chamber before loading it with tobacco will help or else allowing the tobacco a few minutes to dry before stuffing.

Default Difference in Tubes

I used those hot rod tubes in my Top T-2,
and they tore in it also.Thats when I first started
RMO, thought I was doing somethng wrong,so I changed
tubes, went to Mascotte & Gizeh and they worked
perfect.Now I pretty much use 1or 2 wraps.been using them
about 2 years now.
I do use the Vera cruz those are good and another is
Three Castles.
I threw the hot rods out they tore almost always.

The tubes DO make a difference !!!!

@ Deepfriedbeauty

My allover favorite machine is a Top-O-Matic T2 (chrome).

It makes a good smoke but what I like about it most is that I can control the firmness of the finished cigarette as the fill hopper allows my fingers to place the tobacco as I see fit. With other brands of MYO's I can't always get my index fingers in to place the tobacco properly.
