I've been rolling my own cigarettes for over a year. I used to smoke American Spirits Lights (Yellow). But now I buy the American Spirits in the light blue can. I always wondered why they don't make the "lights" in cans. I've noticed they have tubes labeled "lights", so is a light cigarette based on the tube only? What if you roll your own by hand? I just find the light blue cans of American Spirits a bit strong. I roll by hand and use the Premier King filters with an assortment of different papers. But it's still a bit too strong. I have tried different types of tobacco from my local tobacco shops, such as "Danish Export", and while it seem lighter, I actually feel pain in my chest after a week or so. This is why I went back to American Spirits. Maybe my body is just used to it, but it's still a bit strong.

Wow - I'm kinda in the same boat as you...Yellow American Spirits is my brand. And, a visitor from the UK had me try one of her hand-rolled ciggys - And I've been craving the damn things ever since! So smooth and flavorful. I've been smoking more Am.Sprts. as a result. Waiting for my order to come in, from rollyourown.com I've got no places around here that sell cigarette tobacco! Anyway, I would say - Try ordering some of those little 1 Oz. sample packs on line, till you find the brand you like.As for me, I'm trying to track down that peach flavored tobacco that this girl was using (I didn't get a good look at the pouch) It had 3 Gold Leaves on it and was green? Ah, well. If I find out something useful for ya, I'll post again. Good luck!

I don't hand roll my cigs, but I use Criss Cross "Smooth Blend" pipe tobacco. It has a faint sweet taste to it,and smokes great! It is cut for pipes, and rolling. I use it in a Powermatic II injector, and it makes perfect cigs.

I've been using the Peter Stokkebye Turkish (pipe cut) blended about 50/50 with American Spirit in the blue can. I used to smoke American Spirit yellows and this is a decent approximation. With RYO, it's all about the filter, though. And honestly, I have yet to find a truly "light" filter. The difference between tubes is very mild, imo. The Vera Cruz midnight is the closest to a "light" that I've found. I'm anxiously awaiting the release of the light Beretta tube, because that's my favorite so far. Now if I could just find a tobacco that approximates American Spirit in a pipe cut...

I've recently tried a tobacco from Gawith Hoggart from "smoking pipes.com" called Kendal Mixture. look under their 'bulk" tobacco tab for it. It's a little expensive about $55 per pound. But very nice smoke. almost a hint of flowers. very nice finish also. I use the tops roller for my tubes; love it mucho. I am also a american spirit yellow fan and the kendal mixture has been the closest thus far.
