Exclamation Are Malboro Reds Buring Faster and contain less tobacoo?

Bought 3 packs of Marlboro Flip-top from Walgreens Drugstore on Saturday--lit one, was surprised how quickly it burned. Thought it was strange, lit another one, noticed that it even felt lighter in my hand, and was loosely packed. Thought maybe counterfeit and returned to store. Bought a pack without the new Explorer packaging and it smoked like it did. I have been smoking these for 40 years, so I know how it feels in my hand, and how they burn. Called Malboro corporate to ask if they had changed the formulation and tobacco content--assured that was not the case. Bought another pack yesterday (in Connecticut) with the new blue Explorer packaging--burnt fast and loosely packed again. Called Marlboro and they denied that they changed the tobacco content or formulation. They said the numbers on the pack do not indicate it was counterfeit. So don't know. IF PM put in less tobacco will they disclose it to public???? There is something going on, so I don't know, but will be wary. At the current price for a pack, this is an issue. I could probably smoke 2 of these problem cigarette in the time it used to take to smoke one cigarette--not satisfying. Did anyone else encounter the same problem???

I have said this before on another thread.

I smoked Marlboros for years, but started to notice a change in quality back in the 1990s. They just started tasting different and my wife, who does not smoke, told me they were starting to smell bad. Like a cheap cigarette I guess.

I can't believe, the company, when they say they have not changed the formulation and tobacco content.

They are not the Marlboros I use to enjoy.

Marlboro reds are definately different especially since FSC.I cannot smoke them now,I hate the taste. They taste like burnt metal.Marlboro 27 is the only Marlboro I enjoy now. They still have a good quality taste while the reds taste worse than a doral or basic.I smoke 27s,Lucky Strike and Chesterfield.Cant get much better than the latter 2.I will spend the extra $$$ for quality, they are both going to kill me eventually anyway, might as well enjoy it.Dan

At the risk of reviving a year old thread, based on the date this was posted, it sounds like the FSC-related reformulation...

FSC paper made the Reds taste horrible, much more so than some other brands and blends, and when people called in to complain, PM decided to readjust the blend and the paper to compensate for the bad taste. Maybe they continued to tweak it for months, i wouldn't know, i don't smoke them. But the bottom line is that Altria dug their own hole there... it's their own patented paper being forced on us... they should've known how horrible it tastes, and yet they screwed up big time when it came to their own product, an already chemically tasting one at that...

I mean seriously, WTF? Does the right hand not know what the left is doing?

I agree PM did this to themselves. They even supported this FSC bs. I do think they have reformulated their recipe for fsc since it first started. The first FSC marlboros i had were so crappy i couldn't smoke em. I switched to Camels as they hadn't went fsc yet here but did eventually and I felt they tasted less crappy than a Marlboro. Then I retried a Marlboro red about 9 months ago and felt they still taste crappy, but less than before. I have been smoking their L&Ms too and feel there a little better than the Reds. Marlboro lights and 27s still taste like glue sticks to me. Everyone write as many of your elected represenatives as you can and lets get this FSC bullshit repealed!

I think they tried to cash in on the additive free market with Winston but I think it was an epic failure.I havent seen a Winston smoker for a long time.I would love to smoke an original Winston, they were the only filtered cigarette with some ass to em.Dan
