| HI all. I am a Newport smoker and have been for more then 45 years... I need a question answered and I am freaking out about it... I had someone tell me that they were making the new Newport non-menthol because the government was making Newport get rid of their menthol. I do not smoke anything else and I do not really want to become a non-smoker. Does anyone know about this and can tell me the truth Please! |

| What the government is trying to do is to kill all "flavored" brands...that would tend to include newport menthols as well, however, they will focus on strawberry and vanilla and other flavored cigarettes that tend to be something that might attract children to smoking. Other than that, i don't really see a high likelihood of the the government killing the ability of tax paying citizens to buy a legal product...though one never knows when it comes to our government, they seem to do whatever they want! Happy smoking! |

| I agree with Smoky. They were also trying to get menthol included as a flavored cigarette, but they backed off on that. Also, if they did it they wouldn't be only doing it to Newport, they would be getting rid of all menthol cigarettes. As an aside Newport did launch a full flavor regular years back in a red package. It never took off and they eventually took it off the market. It sounds to me like they are trying that again. I also love smoking Newports, so I'd be just as bummed as you if they took them away. |

| A small update: In March of this year, scientists concluded that menthol cigs are no different from regular cigs in terms of affecting a smoker's health. Therefore, it sounds like a menthol ban from the FDA may never happen.
