| Ok, I just have sort of a rant about Newport cigarettes in general. You see, I'm white, there I said it, in all its glory, I am white. But somehow- I do like these newport cigarettes, I don't know why, I just think they have the right strength for me and the right taste for me, but you see, other people that I come across don't seem to agree with this. "You know that's a "Black cigarette right? Why do you smoke those? You're white as hell." "I like em, they're good" You see? You see what kind of crap I have to listen too from smoking newports as a white guy, I don't know. Life just isn't fair nowadays. Last edited by barfly; 05-03-2009 at 09:47 PM. Reason: racial slurs |

| Sounds like you decided to start smoking again. Good for you. If you like Newports, just ignore those comments you read. I've seen people outside of my community smoke Newports before, albeit it's been a year since I saw one of them smoke a Newport in public. Newports are more like "urban cigs."

| Just curious. Still smoking Newport 100's in (I assume) the box? And is it like 1 pack per day for you? If you haven't smoked the FSC Newports yet, good for you. Those FSC Newports don't even taste like menthols to me.

| I think it's dated to link a variety of cigarette to a stereotype and I'm glad it's starting to diminish like the "light", "ultra light","slim" stereotypes. No matter who the company wants to market to, you should just go ahead and keep puffing. |

| actually, they were advertised largely to the african american community, so that is why they were adopted so widely there, but i really like them too, and i'm not black either...but my favorite is the Nat Sherman Mint cigarettes...if you like Newports, try those, they are the best!! |

| That is a pretty rampant stereotype for sure. When somebody says menthol is for blacks to me, I ignore them. I'm not black but I DO smoke menthols pretty regularly in between times that I mostly smoke FF regular or lights regular. I've never met a black person that smoked anything other than menthol so I can see how that stereotype evolved. |

| I did my research on Newport. Before the mid-1980s, this brand was not really marketed toward non-Whites. Most non-White smoke several brands of Menthols. However, it remains so popular because is the most adverstised brand. I have never seen another brand more advertised in Urban areas. You'd think that was the only brand of Menthol that existed. |
