I don't smoke regularly, but I have smoked True Menthol 100s. I liked them. I have tried non menthol cigs before, but can't seem to get into them. I have tried True Blue 100s.

Therion how did you decide on this brand? It doesn't seem very popular these days.

Question

Hi Dubbs, welcome to the CigReviews forum! I think the True cigarettes had that plastic recessed filter that was kind of unique to a cigarette. It's made by the same company that makes Newport but for some odd reason they don't advertise it as much. I wonder if the plastic part gets melted if you smoke it down to the butt?

The filter is just paper now. I heard that it used to be made out of plastic, but its been a paper filter for at least 20 years or so. I don't know why they don't advertise it either. I can only find them in certain stores. I remember a couple of my parents friends smoking them back in the 80's.

Haven't seen True in a long time. But stores now have so many brands and not all are visible from the customer side of the counter, overhead racks for the cashier mostly. So I can't see a lot of what they have. For a long time I didn't know my favorite quick marts carried American Spirit because I never saw any. When I thought to ask I found that they carried just about every style, although talk about high priced!

On the flip side, some of you mention gas station which is probably more rare than True cigarettes around here. Back in another time, there was a gas station (as we old guys know it) on just about every corner. I really miss that time, think about it often. I am from a very small town, I mean the town itself had maybe 1500 residents when I was growing up in the 50s. But I remember in the immediate area, in the city limits or on the edge, 8 gas stations as I define them, places where you got gas, oil changes, wash jobs and minor repairs. I had an uncle that owned a Texaco station. I loved hanging around there with my dad on lazy Sat. or Sun. afternoons. Drinks and snacks always and a few carried some milk, bread and grocery type items. I even worked at one myself for about a year.
That was a great and fun time. You could always find a friend hanging out around a gas station. Quick stops just don't have the same atmosphere.

Ah well, used to be dinosaurs around too I guess. In fact, I remember one on the Sinclair station.

Long winded as usual, I worked at Golden Belt in the mid 60s, making cigarette packs for American Tobacco, who really owned the True brand too at the time. I remember those packs as well as Lucky Strike, Pall Mall and others.
In the early 70s when I became a state LEO, my District office was in Greensboro. The Lorrilard factory was next door, it smelled wonderful to us smokers then. It's still there as well as their home office.

Have a nice weekend all.

True is basically an ultra light cigarette. It comes in regular king size, regular 100's, menthol king and menthol 100s. The thing that makes it stand out is its unique recessed filter.
