Well gum is made of petroleum and rubber what do people expect. I'd be willing to bet it has the same or more risk than dip and chew which are pretty low. I think I read the same article in a british paper and they thought the risk came from the nicotine. Doctors were immediately saying well you should still use it because the risk is lower than smoking. Apparently they theorized nicotine in some cases suppresses your cells ability to fight cancer but the gum wouldn't cause cancer itself if I remember right. I know in the UK they practically worship the stuff they recommend you use it while still smoking and cut down, and reccomend pregnant women use it because the baby gets less damage from just nicotine than nicotine and smoke. I've never understood the whole nicotine gum good chewing tobacco and snus bad idea. Swedish snus has never been linked to mouth cancer in epidemiological studies.
