Chemicals Found in Cigarettes - What are they? Although this list is not comprehensive, here are a few of my favorites... Benzene (an additive in gasoline) – found in cigarette smoke, ever follow a dump truck on the highway with your windows rolled down? Same thing, roll ‘em up and smoke up – you’ll be safer in the long run. Formaldehyde (embalming fluid) – hey if preserves dead bodies imagine what it can do for live ones! Smoke more, its the new fountain of youth! Ammonia (used for flavoring) – separates the nicotine from the tobacco to give you that nice mellow feeling with out having to clean your toilet every hour! Acetone (otherwise know as nail polish remover) – no, don’t try and remove the paint on your nails with the a cigarette butt, doesn’t work – tried it already. Tar – (Russian oil) – this is that black liquid gunky stuff that gets to your lungs and makes them feel all heavy and satisfied! Nicotine (the fun part of smoking) – this is an alkaloid found in the nightshade family of plants and is the reason most of us smoke it’s a stimulant and a relaxant...mmmm Carbon Monoxide (the big CO) – this chemical is produced naturally in the human body as part of normal metabolism and prevents such diseases as atherosclerosis and malaria – see it saves lives. Arsenic (I smell a rat) – this is my favorites atomic number, 33. Used to unsuccessfully kill may spouses it is has also been used as a military weapon, kind of ironic seeing how many troops smoke. Hydrogen Cyanide (gas chamber poison) – I really love this one. Originally called ‘blue acid’ and used to kill death row inmates. Hey, I took some blue acid in the 80’s and I’m still here, what gives? |
