Default What if all smokers did just quit?

I just came up with kind of a theory that opens up my mind about the government and cigarettes. Like, what do you think would happen if all of a sudden, all smokers did just start quitting? Let's say that cigs weren't selling and all of the tobacco companies went out of business, I think our government would be in some deep shit if this happened. To me, people look down on smokers and may give us ugly looks, but I see it from this perspective, we're the one paying taxes with these cigs- we're the ones giving the government our money when we buy these cigs. I think our government needs to open their eyes and fast because I don't think they realize that if they keep shunning smokers- and if these laws actually do get us all to quit- what then? What else would the government find to tax? Alcohol? Food? Soda? I think if anything, the government kind of takes our money for granted, they should just be thankful that smokers are willing to pay the taxes to fund their little bullshit plans. Anyways, to me, I think if smokers do start quitting- especially with the way this economy is- we'd be more screwed then we have ever been before. Anyways, just my opinions about that....

Kids will go retarded.....we pay a large percentage for their education by cigarette taxes yet they are still dumber by the year. I would like to quit just so a non-smoker gets ripped .

I know, with the way our economy is, I would sort of expect the Government and non smokers to quit attacking us and let us smoke! I mean, the Tobacco industry could make up a very profitable demographic if the government would just give it a chance. I think maybe they should go back to letting cigarettes be advertised- and get more people to smoke- then we could probably get more money flowing in the economy.

Default They would tax alcohol!

If every smoker quit tomorrow I guarantee you they would move on to the next vice and tax the shit out of that. Beer, wine, and alcohol would take a huge hit. Their lobbyists would start raising hell and so would the American public. Alcoholics would start drinking Colt 45 and Milwaukees Best and new 'generic' beers would start becoming popular. (see any similarities here?) Then they would create an electronic beer and we'd all be robots . At this point, legalizing weed and taxing that becomes a REAL option for the government.

Haha, but the difference is, people don't really get "addicted" to alcohol, at least not like cigs. People could just give up drinking and say, "Problem solved". Like I said, smokers money is taken for granted. I guarantee you if tobacco sales fall, and tobacco companies can't stay in business, it's going to be kind of like "Be careful what you wish for, Obama."

I can guarantee you every smoker in America will not quit. I know I ain't!

I actually like the idea of confronting Obama. I wanna let him hear my mind when it comes to the tax hike, FDA regulation on tobacco, and possibly taking my right to buy cigs online away.

Some people find it hard to quit drinking, believe me. Some folks drink day and night. I wouldn't be surprised if several politicians get drunk a lot themselves.

Well, after our economy went further down the tubes due to the gargantuan loss of tax revenue - not to mention the hundreds of thousands of people losing their jobs due to the tobacco industry going tits up - you would start to see "new medical research" (at the behest of Washington, no doubt) being released to the public stating that smoking "might not be as detrimental to your health as previously thought", in a limp attempt to try & rectify the horrible situation caused by the non-smoking Nazi's...

Yeah - it would never happen, but if it did...

What if all smokers quit say a magic anti-smoking vaccine? Sin taxes on soda and big macs imminent followed by a gasoline tax or Value added tax.
