Exclamation Is there a chance in hell of identifying the brand based on flavor?

Hello.

My first post here (Hi everyone :), but also seems like my only hope...
I hope my question/request isn't so hard that it'd sink to the bottom of the page on the first day... heh heh

But even if it will, i think i'll stick around ;P

I'm an occasional smoker.

Anyway, it seemed like an ordinary store-bought brand, but it was absolutely perfect, when i smelled it thru an open window, from 20 feet away. As in any household with anti-smokers, the window got closed within seconds and any chance of me finding out what it was, was gone. But the scent stuck in my mind.

It was something i never smelled before..

Cause i can pick out the yellow Spirits and the Marlboro Reds just by the smell of them, because they are something i've had before...

others i can recognise but not name.

But this was completely different.

It wasn't sugary...

it was more earthy and bitter, like black tea... warm, serious and reserved

A "warm machinery" smell would describe it quite well... the smells of oil, metal and rubber together, but not fuel

a freshly-opened can of Coke also has that "machinery" smell to it...

and then there was a lot of cocoa...

To me, on the scale of "yes-no-maybe" it's a "hell yeah!" ...an absolutely perfect flavor

Someone recognize it? Please?

It was an all-white cigarette...

Thanks. :)

A guessing game where you put a blindfold over my eyes and give me a cig to drag. And then ask "Can you guess what cig this is?" I couldn't answer, because all cigs taste different and they all have different flavors. I think I can tell how STRONG a cig is based on the drag. If the drag feels like me inhaling fresh air, it's most likely a ultra light.

Some lights are stronger than other light cig brands.

Hey, thanks for caring :)

I know... it's not easy... i would have much rather asked the guy smoking what his brand was. But unless i see the same person again, i'll have to do this the hard way.

Maybe someone could name a few 'non-sugary' brands that i can look up or even try...

Oh and i know this might sound insane, but what do menthol cigs smell like when lit? and i'm not talking about taste, more like from outside, smelling someone else's smoke.... i'm just not sure i ever met anyone who'd smoked those around me, and i come from a non-smoking family, in a not so smoker-friendly state (California...)

..but with today's prices, i'd rather not buy a whole pack to try just one and throw the rest away....

Uhhh... is there anything to it besides the mint and tobacco? Is it usually more sweet-smelling or bitter?

Thanks.. i hope i don't sound like a buffoon, this is honest...

i'm still kind of young, though not really, being 21... chalk it up to a "sheltered" life, ok? A careful, polite kid from an "anti" family... but i have my own way in life, i can't be a cardboard cutout forever, in a person you can't just trim off the edges that stick out and and anything that doesn't match someone's expectations....

Take care...

Hi there same-same, and Welcome to
our group.
As far as guessing smoke odors and
smells, holy cow there must be a million out there.
You might have smelled something of the burley
flavor, or a Danish blend? There is alot..
can you stop by where you smelled it and ask?
Oh well keep on trying, if you RYO you can make all
different blends.....

Thanks gatr :)

I was home and the window facing the sidewalk was open, when a guy strolled by with his bicycle, stopped for a minute, lit up and took long drag... seemed like it was his first cigarette after a workout, and he was enjoying every bit of it, and so was i, for some five seconds... But i could remember it forever... It was that good.

And thanks for the hint, i'll be sure to read up on that... really do appreciate...

Edit: ...I'm feeling especially lucky today! ..having come across a description of what seems really close to what this question was about.

Something i never expected to find, doing a FSC-related search...

Other ones that I like for special smoking occasions; NAS perique (or if you can D&R, they've got a couple of perique blends as well.) Perique tobacco is fermented in oak barrels for a couple of years, and it has a really amazing flavor. Again, not for everyone, or all day, but certainly something to give you insight into some of the really amazing tobaccos out there...
Yes, yes and yes... definitely earthy, and IMHO amazing, also really riled up my family as it drifted into the living room :D

And here's another quote, from further down the page...

Too much or too many makes me a little hoarse though. God, I love it though...
Funny, i have read about heat (as opposed to air) cured tobacco in the context of its lower TSNA levels but higher tar yield, but never thought about what it would taste like, except for "different"...

All of this points me in the right direction, though i'll definitely ask around and try various blends.

Much thanks and +1! :)

Sounds like a Camel Turkish Royal to me.They have a cocoa taste to them and a different smell. But they have a weird looking filter, not white.Chesterfield Kings also have a different smell, and they are a non filter that will knock you down if you are not used to them.Camel non filters also have a different smell.Dan

I wouldn't worry too much what I've learned from smoking pipe tobacco is the smoke tastes nothing at all like it smells, to an extent the worse it smells the better it tastes. If it's all white could it be an unfiltered cig (lucky strike maybe?) or a ryo blend.

I honestly have no idea it could be a perique or dark fired burley blend drum, PS Amsterdam, AS perique blend but most people generally hate the smell of those.
