I had a Kreisler Colibri ladies snap lighter back in the 70's and really loved using it. It was tiny and feminine, but held a fill for at least two weeks and it was silver with my name "Jenny" in a pretty handwriting cursive script engraved on the side. It never smelled of lighter fluid nor leaked whatever. I especially liked it a good bit better than a Zippo because if you dropped it when it was lit, ithe flame automatically went out as the snap top extinguished the flame when you took your thumb off it, whereas sometimes a Zippo will continue burning and burn your carpet, etc. or even start a large fire if dropped while lit.
My cigarettes always seemed to taste cleaner than they did when I used a Bic or other butane, or even a Zippo lighter fluid and flint type. My Kreisler eventually, after more than 10 years of regular use, wouldn't hold a fill as the packing wore out and when I went to the seller ( a jeweler ) to have it repacked, he told me that they had moved over to butane lighters and no longer repaired or repacked the lighter fluid types. I have a vintage one now just like my old one, except it has a map of islands engraved on the side in a darker silver, almost gun metal, and when I bought it off Ebay it was mint in the box, however, there is a filter stuck in it so it remains just sitting on a shelf on display in my living room. I miss that type of lighter, as to me, the Bics are kind of tacky looking. Even with a cover, they look kind of cheap and I don't feel as "special" and snootily stylish as I did when I used my Kreisler. HeeHee.... |
