There seems to be a large legalization sentiment in the air in the last few years. And one of the common arguments is: "why are cigarettes legal when they cause so much health problems when pot isn't when it causes none?"

So my question is: Is Marijuana smoking really safe as the pot-legalization crowd claims? I remember having a D.A.R.E class in Jr High School and they said something to the effect that smoking one joint of weed does as much damage to one's lungs as a carton of cigs? I have no interest in smoking Marijuana, never have, never will but just wondering about this.

The 1-joint-=-20cigs thing is not true.
Unless you're taking as many hits on the joint as you would with a cig, which I'm not sure is possible, it wouldn't be as bad as half a cig... I mean cigs have not just the smoke, but tons of lung-damaging chemicals and tar and stuff. Weed's natural, sooo...

This is straight up not true. Fox was the one who actually backed similar research, and it turns out they completely funded it. Except a CARTON? There is no way.I'm a big pot head (not lately though, need to get clean for piss tests for jobs), and I mainly vaporize, smoke out of a dry pipe, smoke out of a water bong, and roll spliffs (a mix of loose tobacco/weed). Vaporizing and water bongs are the safest way to roll, then dry pipes, then the spliffs. But honestly I still have iron lungs from many years of martial arts, and I still take the biggest rip out of all of my friends. Cigarettes have done more harm to me than weed has, I didn't start hacking up stuff until I started puffing.

Interesting, I think it has more to do with the additives and FSC crap paper they roll cigarettes with. Both tobacco and marijuana are natural plants so why would one do more damage than the other?

To me, that's like saying "well caffeine and crack cocaine are both drugs, why would one do more damage than the other?" Just because they're plants doesn't mean they reap the same benefits. Albeit, if joints were sold at grocery stores and gas stations everywhere, I'd be first in line!

Hookah smoking is the tobacco equivalent of smoking a weed bong so that is what they should compared against. Like I said I always heard Marijuana causes more damage than tobacco, so when I always hear the potheads talking about legalization because it's harmless it gets me thinking.

Hmm... How come a cancer producing company is legal and makes Vikings... But how can law enforcement use completely false statements about an illegal substance? I don't know... It makes me want to put a gun to my head because of the behind the scenes government. But no I am neutral with marijuana.... I know sure as hell that statement isn't true... D.A.R.E is set up by lying cops who are either uneducated about scientific (not proving) facts about smoking weed; or they are bitter from being made fun if by popular kids in high school and become self righteous... Lazy and stupid. We used to have a marijuana addict at work and he would just about forget his own name sometimes.

I have known people like that.

Smoking pot, I think, is a lot more of a health and mental hazard than smoking
tobacco.
