I just checked one of my Newport 100's again by a light and using my reading glasses. They do now have vent holes about a half inch up from the end of the filter. You can also tell by looking at the filter after you have smoked one. A cigarette without vent holes will be uniformly brown across the whole filter, which is how Newports used to be before they put in vent holes. A cigarette with vent holes will be more brown in the center of the filter and lighter around the edges.
