I have been in your boat for a while now. I share your opinions and don't support any establishment that does not support me. One note to add is to make sure to tell management (not employees) why you are not going to give them business tonight or next week (make it out like you're a regular). When they realize how much money is lost maybe then they will consider changing there mind.
For instance, I did what I mentioned above at a Pizza Hut who's corporate policy is no smoking. After a month (I was not the only one apparently) I NOW have a Pizza Hut I can smoke in, drink in, and eat in. It works but you must be polite and straight forward. One victory down....thousands to go
