Possessing Tobacco in a High School Do you think it is right for a school to say that if a students of legal age to buy tobacco they cannot possess a tobacco product on school property even if they have no intention of using it on school grounds. Or searching someones things because someone saw them smoking after school even though they are of the legal age to smoke? Because as I know only it's use is prohibited in most states, not having it if you are of age.
I know of people who've been searched many times during their highschool years, for people seeing it and searching, from rumors leading to the eventual search, even people being searched because someone saw it in their car, to a teacher or security person seeing them doing it off school property only to search the person a few days later. Is this right?
I understand that some may give or sell cigs to people of under the age, this should be a suspendable offense, but their are many who never do this and get screwed over anyways.
I say if a person is of the age, doesn't use it at school, and doesn't intend to give/sell to others who are underage, they should be allowed to have it on their person/backpack/purse/in their car if they have one. |
